Smoking Ban

Postby richard on Thu Dec 20, 2007 11:59 am

OK - I'm not a smoker but I hate this smoking ban. Here's why;

As a guitar player it worries me that 20% of the people in the audience (at least) are either outside, or thinking of going outside during my set. And smokers are staying at home to smoke and drink now (and who'd blame them). So that affects all of us.

It used to be that if you wanted to avoid groups of pissed leery blokes you could simply not go into the pub. Now - groups of pissed leery blokes stand OUTSIDE the pub. Mmmm. I'm comfortable with that - NOT. So it's actually more dangerous to walk down the street nowdays. Thanks for that.

Have you noticed how many more people are smoking? I guess it's probably that they simply can't smoke inside of course so they take advantage of breaks or shopping etc. to have a fag. So I'm always walking down the street behind someone puffing away. Mmmm.. healthy!

Hey, don't pubs smell GREAT these days. Mmmm... beer, b.o, sweat and farts. All mixed in with that yummy toilet smell. Very attractive. NOT

I'm actually nostalgic for the days when you could smoke in pubs. That's what pubs are for. Yes, it's dangerous and unhealthy. Yes, bar staff and employees don't have to go home reeking of fags. Yes, insurers are more comfortable. But how about some negotiation? How about a smoking license? Or even (wait for it) smoking rooms? Hey, doesn't that sound a little nostalgic too?

Let's wait for next year when the noise at work regs kick in. Lower limit for noise at work drops for the entertainment sector by 5db. Above that, employees have to be given the option to wear ear defenders. I'm not joking. And the lower limit is just a little above what you'll hear in a decent cinema during an action sequence. Guess I shouldn't have bought that new amp.

Thanks for listening,

Rich R

You're playing in the wrong places if the percentage is that high.

Now - groups of pissed leery blokes stand OUTSIDE the pub. Mmmm. I'm comfortable with that - NOT.
Even as a frail female that doesn't bother me. You frightened of groups of leery blokes then?

So it's actually more dangerous to walk down the street nowadays.
Now yer talking bo**ocks.

So I'm always walking down the street behind someone puffing away.
ALWAYS !!! Think someone is exaggerating. At least on the street the smoke quickly disperses. And you don't HAVE to follow close behind.

You're going in the wrong places. You need educating. Bl**dy sight better than tobacco smoke whatever the smell, as at least other smells don't stick to your hair and clothes.

I'm actually nostalgic for the days when you could smoke in pubs. That's what pubs are for.
"THAT'S WHAT PUBS ARE FOR". How arrogant can anyone get, especially since the total percentage of smokers is very small nowadays.

Guess I shouldn't have bought that new amp.
Musicians who feel the need to play their music LOUDLY, above what is comfortable for people in the audience, are only playing LOUD to cover up their own deficiencies. For fat too long "Sound Engineers" have been deaf and as a consequence crank up the volume and proceed to deafen everyone else.
