Looking for a guitarist...

Postby Helen Ditchburn on Thu Nov 08, 2007 12:21 pm

I'm a singer songwriter, I would really like to find a guitarist who can cover up my worst fluffs & maybe add some twiddly bits to make my songs sound pretty.

You can hear some of my songs on http://www.myspace.com/helenditchburn.

Still looking for a guitarist

Postby Helen Ditchburn on Wed Mar 05, 2008 1:26 pm

People keep saying to me there are loads of guitarists looking for someone to work with. Well they don't want to work with me.

Is it my personal hygene or am I just so crap...

Seriously, I'm still looking for a guitarist to work with.

Hi Helen

Was it you (or another Helen) at Bath Acoustic Club (St James Wine Vaults) last Wednesday?

Hope this answer hasn't raised your hopes - I wouldn't describe myself as a 'guitarist' - rather a singer who tries to accompany himself

Hi Jeremy,

Yes, it was me. We were a bit late arriving which meant we missed some of the people who were there.

Do you come over to Bristol at all? I run the Somerville open mic night (Somerville Club, 23 Sommerville Road, Bishopston, BS7 9AD) every Thursday. We could have a chat maybe?

Cheers
Helen

Hi Helen

I was on 3rd, after Mary our host, and Ray Croll, so you would have missed my efforts!

Never make it as far as Bristol of an evening, as I like a short drive home :!: That was my first visit to St James WV, as my old singing partner Shaw lives just round the corner (about 20 years ago we were in a small little known Bath folk band called Dick Derby). I'll probably go to St James again, but I'm usually to be found at my local (Corsham - Folk at the Oak - Richard Riley goes there sometimes), Melksham and Bradford on Avon at times.

Hope you have success in your quest - I was hoping me answering your message would 'freshen' it up as people tend to look at recent posts (at least, I do). As I said, I wouldn't class myself as a guitarist, and wouldn't dare offer my services as an accompanyist. I just try and do something adequate to accompany my own singing, and I'm always grateful if a proper guitarist joins in :)

However, if we are at the same venue, and the chord sequence isn't too exotic, I could try an accompanyment (we'd have to do a brief practise first outside the room)

Thank you. That's very generous of you. I'm sure I'll be down to Bath again in the not too distant future.

I can't make Corsham any more (we used to go regularly) because I'm busy running the Somerville Club open mic every Thursday. I'll see if I can make it to Melksham or Bradford on Avon.

I hope to bump into you soon!

Hi Helen - don't know if my offer of sometime attempted accompanyment would be considered 'generous' - I'm no Richard Riley :!: You really want someone with his skills :) My visits these days to Bradford on Avon are relatively rare as I'm more likely to be at Corsham or Bath.

I always try and make Phil Deverill's Melksham sessions (2nd Sunday each month at the Rachel Fowler Centre - bring your own drink) and Phil would be delighted if you came (last session only had 6 performers and we got to do 6 songs each!) but Shakespeare Live rehearsals are looming and if I've been out most of Sunday doing that my wife expects me to stay in with her in the evening
