Hello, people.
If you are looking for folk clubs, singalongs, acoustic sessions or open mic venues in the south west, you should find these two attachments very useful - if not indispensable.
_________
Tony & Peter’s Folk Diary started off as an attempt to find out what was going on in our neck of the acoustic woods – NOT gigs and concerts, but folk clubs, sessions, open mic, etc. – in short, anywhere where we could go and inflict our singing and playing on willing victims. I got a bit carried away with the idea and I now flatter myself that it has achieved a scope and standard that other people may find useful. It fills a gap, I think, in that it’s the only such guide (I believe) that doesn’t involve working out which is the second Tuesday or the last Friday or whether ‘alternate Mondays’ means this Monday or next Monday… I’ve done all the work for you.
Originally a guide to what’s happening in Somerset (including North and North East Somerset), the area has expanded to cover Bath, Bristol, Dorset and easily accessible (from our point of view) parts of Devon, Wiltshire, Gloucester and even Hampshire. I issue the Diary for each month during the previous month, each one accompanied by an alphabetical list of the venues giving contacts and other details (I'm in the process of adding postcodes for the benefit of sat-nav users). Please feel free to forward them to anyone you think may be interested – or get them to email me and I’ll put them on the mailing list. It’s all free.
In order to keep up with changes in the acoustic world I have to rely largely on people telling me about them – so I’d be more than grateful for any feedback.
I’d strongly recommend that you contact any venue you are not familiar with before turning up, particularly if it involves a long journey, as often changes are made to the schedules, which I am not immediately aware of.
Best wishes,
Tony Watts
