Barry Thomas has died

Postby richard on Sun Mar 09, 2008 11:48 am

Very sad news from Mirelle Mathlener. Barry Thomas (landord of the Farmhouse and The Robin Hood) has died suddenly. Please see Mirelles email. Our thoughts to Angie and the family.

Hi Everyone,
Rich and I are very sorry to have to pass on the news of the sudden and unexpected death of Barry Thomas, Landlord of the Farmhouse/Robin Hood. When we arrived at the Farmhouse for the Open Mic on Thursday we were told Barry had been taken to hospital earlier that day with chestpains. He died in the early hours of Friday morning. Obviously this is a very difficult time for Angie, Barry's partner who runs the Robin Hood and their family. The Farmhouse is closed until further notice. The Robin hood will be open this week but for MUSIC ONLY. The bar will be closed but musicians can bring their own drinks if they want. It would be great to see any of you who are around at the Robin Hood this Monday for a song and a chat. Barry loved music and had great plans of turning the Farmhouse and The Robin Hood into real music pubs!

We will let you know more as the news arrives.

The latest I heard

Postby Helen Ditchburn on Mon Mar 17, 2008 1:03 pm

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd update you with what I understand from Mireille's last email. The Farmhouse is closed & will remain closed for the foreseable future. The Robin Hood is open for music. The bar is officially closed, so bring your own booze. All the usual music events will carry on. This will be in place at least until after Barry's funeral (still no date on that). Angie is still reeling from the shock (as are we all).

I'm sure there will be a benefit gig at some point in the not too distant future. I'll pass on what I know when I hear it.

Barry's funeral & stuff...

Postby Helen Ditchburn on Wed Mar 19, 2008 12:47 pm

I'll just paste Mireille's email here...

Hi all,

Just to let you know that Barry's Funeral is this Thursday 20 March. There will be a service at 2pm at St. Agnes Church (St. Paul's roundabout) which anyone can attend. The cremation afterwards is private/family only.
Then from 6pm (till approx 9pm) there will be a wake at The Greek Orthodox Church, Easton (Next to Charlotte Keel Health centre at Seymour Road). All musicians are welcome to join us there, particularly if you were a regular at the OM night or Jam night!

Also, The Robin Hood, will be closed on Easter Monday! Hope to see you all the week after.

Take care and thank you for your support

Mireille and Rich
